Sir The Certificate of [Serj?] Beard and the account stated is rather [strikethrough: improper] insufficient — as there seems to be contradiction in the account stated and the certificate; the first expresses that [strikethrough: he has received all the articles of Cloath] there is due him some articles of Clothing, the other shows no balance. I have therefore sent [these?] stated as will be proper, which you will please to sign. — I have also information against [Serj?] Beard respecting a mare belonging to the U. States, as it is my duty to know what become of the mare [he] must bring me a Certificate shewing [strikethrough: what became of her] from some Officer or Respectable [person?] she was delivered to an Officer of the U.
