Capt Edward D Turner's Pay Roll without a Certificate of Examination was inadvertently sent you it being the one intended to have been retained in my Office — The proper Roll you will find enclosed herewith together with a Muster and Pay Roll of Cap^t Lyman's Company for June, July, August & September 1798 — the Amount paid thereon Dollars 856 ⁷⁸/₁₀₀ is agreeable to Statement transmitted to you on the 16^th instant — At that time I made an Estimate for Pay, Subsistence and Forage of the Troops at the upper Posts up to the end of the present year (and which was transmitted to you on the 10^th Instant) I presumed that Cap^t Lyman intended to draw Provisions of the Contractor, but he has since informed me that he prefers Subsistence in Money, therefore it is necessary to add Doll^rs 178 ⁶⁰/₁₀₀ (including Doct^r Wilkinson's Subsistence and exclusive of my compensation for services in [strikethrough: say] Department) to that Estimate — which then will amount to Dollars 2634 ²³/₁₀₀ — Your Letter of the 19^th Instant respecting Capt Edw^d Miller is this moment come to hand and to which I will pay particular attention.
