Philadelphia 22^d November 1798 Sir, I have expected for some time past a letter from you authorising me to receive any balance due you at the War Office, agreeably to my letter of the 6^th August last — As the Accounts now stand you are indebted to me in the Sum of 593: 35 Dollars, and the Accountant finds a balance due you from the Public of 86: 2 Dollars, this Sum you was to have drawn for in my favor to place to your credit but it has not been done — We are all closing our Accounts, and as few outstanding advances as possible must then appear. I have therefore to request, that you will send forward any other Vouchers you possess for money paid on Account of the United States in the Military or Quarter Masters Departments to me, (and I will have them adjusted, and credit you with the Amount.) If you have no such Vouchers, empower me to receive the Pay due you that it may be carried to your credit with me — Be good enough to write me on the Subject immediately. I will find an opportunity privately if not collectively to mention your business, one of them at least is already acquainted with your merit and claim — Enclos'd Enclosed you have William Turners, John Lefbarys & Henry Millers receipt for forty Dollars paid each of them, that being the Amount Stopd from them, by you on settlement under an apprehension that further advances might have been made here on their orders.
