[Memorandum of the [undecipherable] No[v] [undecipherable] 1798 [undecipherable]] We the undersigners being engaged by Joseph Perkins Superintendant of Armoures on behalf of the United States for the Post about to be established at Harpers Ferry, on Potomack in Virginia to prosecute their Post and as is specially and particularly expressed in our covenants thus commencing our respective employments, [strikethrough: conditions] among other things that an advance of One Months Pay should be made to each of us on our giving security for our imme- diate proceeding to the Post and there accounting by our labour or otherwise for the amount — be it known to all whom it may concern that we have agreed to Stand mutually [interlined: bound] for each other for the full and faithful performance of this part of our contracts — so that in the case of the fail- ure of any one, [interlined: among] the others shall stand [interlined: also] for the amount paid him in equal and exact proportions, as though the Money had been recei- ved by ourselves in the same proportions — Done at Philadelphia this twenty second day of November 1798 [undecipherable]
