Sir,
You will immediately proceed with the detachment under your command to Pittsburg in the State of Pennsylvania. Your route will be by Lancaster - Carlisle - Shippensburg and Bedford. Having drawn a sufficiency of provisions in this place to serve you to Carlisle you will there receive such a supply from the Contractor as will enable you to take with you eight days rations, or as many more as the Waggons now furnished you can, without being overloaded, transport. Any further supply that may be necessary on your march you will purchase out of the Monies now advanced you, out of which you will also defray the expences incident to the march, such as Straw, fuel &c.
You will keep regular accounts and take proper vouchers for all your expenditures. You will also keep a Journal noticing the weather and distances of each days march, a copy of which you are to transmit to the War Office.
On your arrival at Pittsburg you will find orders from General Wilkinson to which you will conform.
Ensigns Stall and Cook will accompany the detachment.
I have directed the Sum of Two hundred dollars to be advanced you on account of the expences that may be incident to your March, which it is expected you will pursue with all diligence consistently with the health of your mens —
