Ames thinks it of importance, that I inform you, that the Patterns which have been delivered by me to yours & the Hon.^ble Secretary of War's order do not correspond in every particular with those he Patterns after— [undecipherable], the [undecipherable] which holds the Bayonet, is placed on the under side of the Barrel— and the white [undecipherable] for the Ramrod is [undecipherable] Muzzle— whereas those he [undecipherable] from the nut is placed on the upper side & the [undecipherable] smooth— this is all the difference except in the workmanship of the Lock &c in that the [undecipherable] have the preference by two Dollars in the market—— I received from last mail an anonymous letter which I believe was from you, in answer to mine of Oct 7^th it has obviated some difficulties— and Time will remedy others.
