Sir,
Agreeable to Instructions from the Secretary of War I have received of John Nevill Esqr Inspector of the Revenue two thousand five hundred and Six Dollars 496 cents being the Amount of my Estimate transmitted to you on the 19th Ultimo and for which sum I have this day drawn on the Board of War at five days sight and of which I have advised him & have same time transmitted a Schedule of its Appropriation, together with that of a Part of a Balance of cash formerly in my hands — A Copy of that Schedule you will find annexed together with an Estimate of Pay, Subsistence & Forage of the Troops at the upper Posts for October November & December 1798 and also for the recruiting Service the Amount of which is 3458 Dollars & 20 Cents — Three of the Accounts expressed in the Schedule you will find enclosed — Viz — Lieut Byfell's Pay & Subsistence Capt Janner's Subsistence Acct & his receipts for cash on account of recruiting service — the only remaining Voucher is Capt Lyman's Rolls which I expected would have been returned to me from Presque Isle in time to have accompanied this —
[& in my Estimate you will see I have taken the Pay of Berk Bells Pay due & for which I hope it will lead to a decision on that point
