Regarding a Power of Attorney

100%

Anthony Dey [undecipherable] Reced 14th Nov Ansd same day York, 6th November 1798 Sir, About the latter end of the Year 1792 or beginning of the Year 1793 one John McClanning a Continental Soldier gave a Power of Attorney to one Cornelius Haring to draw his Soldiers pay - with his discharge + papers + I believe some certificates - Haring it is alleged rec’d the money and now refuses to account to him for it. A suit at law has been instituted and I am directed by Mr. John Hays Junr. to apply to you for some information respecting it - If you can let me know whether he rec’d any money or what has been done in it you will much oblige a poor old Continental, as well as myself. And if I can in return render you service, here, or if [undecipherable] any disbursements I will cheerfully repay them - In expectation of shortly receiving in answer. I am Sir, Yours etc. Anth.y Dey No. 19 Cedar Street

Mr. William Simmons
