Sergt Joseph Updegraff has requested me to write to you [strikethrough: respecting] his back pay which he claims as due him from the date of his inlistment Dect 10th 1795. to the 26th October - 97 the day on which he Joined & reported himself to me
Sergt Updegraff says he was inlisted by Capt Ben Price on the 10th of December 1795. that he remained at Frederick Town under the Orders of Capt Price untill the 1st of April 1796. Captain Price having no person to furnish provision longer told him he might go and work, but must report to him occasionally - which he says he done untill he reported himself to me - which was done as above mentioned - his pay was made out on my Rolls from that Period - and remarks noted accordingly will you please to inform me how this business stands, and whether he can receive pay, and if so, how to be obtained
