West Point, Oct^r. 26. 1798 Sir, I inclose you returns of Military of Quarter Masters Stores dated the 1 instant. We have nearly finished rebuilding the north wall of the powder magazine in Old Fort Clinton. I forward by this post to the Secretary of War an accurate Sketch of said magazine, to which sketch I beg leave to refer you. It will appear familiar to you. This magazine I begin to think, since I have seen the side wall taken down & viewed the ends of the timber of the bomb proof, will with some more small repairs last 15 or 20 years. It would cost a very large sum of money to build a new powder magazine of masonry sufficiently large to contain the quantity of powder the present magazine will hold.
