Document 1798Alexander Hamilton has received notification from Mr. Goldsborough informing Captain Robert Hamilton of his appointment as a Lieutenant in the Navy. He thanks Stoddert for his efforts on Captain Hamilton's behalf and reports that Robert is currently absent due to a journey to Albany. When he returns he will be ready to obey the orders of the department. If his ship is not ready, he wishes to be a volunteer on another ship so he can acquaint himself with the management of a ship of war.
