To day I am favoured with your letter of the 16^th Inst in answer to one of a former date from me — Having paid the enormous sum of Sixteen Dollars, for a Box weighing about One hundred weight, and received the most positive assurances, that it should be delivered to your order the next day, you may judge of my surprise when I was informed you had not received it — I have since called on the Proprietor here who received the money — He acknowledges the fact that it was left on the road, by order of some other Proprietor or the rascality of the Drivers but again assure me it is gone on — On this I cannot depend and therefore Shall be obliged, by farther advice from you on the Subject — Your very sincerely Samuel Hodgdon Intendant Hors U.S. John Kitty Esq^r. --- Philad^a 19^th October 1798.
