[252] Philad^a 17^th October 1798 Mess^rs George & Edward Thompson Gentlemen I have received your letter of Yesterdays date covering the Q. M. Gen^t draft on me for 500 Dollars I have accepted it and agreeably to your request return it through the same medium — Sam Your most Obed^t Servant Samuel Hodgdon Philadelphia 17^th October 1798. I have received your letter of the 13^th instant, and shall answer it fully as soon as I am possessed of some documents which I think necessary to accompany it — The purport of this is to inform you the stocks under order for M^r M^c Cormack were deducted in my Statement to you that left only 3024 on hand but a small number of these have been delivered nor does it appear probable that the remainder will be wanted for a considerable time of course near five thousand remain in Store which may be ordered where they are likely to be first needed — By a letter received from the Secretary of War dated 13^th Instant I am directed to deliver Twenty five hundred stocks of the three thousand under order for Shanandoah — These await your order — but perhaps you will wish to extend it after receiving the above information — The Vessel that carried the last stocks is here and will take in any number to deliver at York, Hartford or Springfield on the terms mentioned in my letter — The Bennington Pattern Muscts have long since been delivered — they were sent of on the receipt of my letter to Springfield which was written and forwarded by Post on the day I mentioned — Sam Sir Your most Obed^t Serv^t Samuel Hodgdon Oliver Wolcott Esq^r Secretary of the Treasury
