Pittsburg 12^th October 1798 Dear Sir, By your letter this moment received I have the very great pleasure of knowing that you & Family were well on the 5^th Instant. The D^r McGen being advised by my letter to him that Gen^l Wilkinson had transmitted me a requisition for a considerable Quantity of Stores (and of which you were informed by my letter of the 12^th) directs me to suspend making any further provision in that Buisiness. The following is an Extract of the D^r McGen^ls letter Viz — "By a letter from the General am informed that he directs you to purchase a number of Articles to be forwarded to Natchez on Supposition that I would be on my way to join him" — As I shall be soon at Pittsburg and as many of these Articles have & shall be sent forward from Fort Washington, you will delay the purchase of any part of the Articles untill my arrival" — I cannot determine how far the above Extract ought to affect the Requisition I transmitted to you in obedience to the General's Instructions to me — Sam Hodgdon Esq^r Philad^a I am D^r Sir, your very hum^ble & ob^t Servant J.
