Pittsburg 12^th October 1798 Dear Sir, By your Letter this moment received I have the very great pleasure of knowing that you & Family were well on the 5^th Instant. The D^rM^rGen. being advised by my letter to him that Gen^l Wilkinson had transmitted me a requisition for a considerable Quantity of Stores (and of which you were informed by my letter of the 12^thmo) directs me to suspend making any farther provision in that Business. the following is an Extract of the D^rM^rGen^ts letter Viz — "By a letter from the General am informed that he directs you to purchase a number of Articles to be forwarded to Natchez on Supposition that I would be on my way to join him" — "As I shall be soon at Pittsburg and as many of these Articles have & shall be sent forward from Fort Washington, you will delay the purchase of any part of the Articles untile my arrival" — I cannot determine how far the above Extract ought to affect the Requisition I transmitted to you in obedience to the General's Instructions to me — Sam Hodgdon Esq^r Philad^a I am D^r Sir, your very hum^le & ob^t Servant I.S —
