Sir
I now forward an Estimate of the Nikajack expedition that was undertaken by Major Ore in 1794; as also that for Major Johnston in the same Year, but of a later period. They both was carried on beyond the boundaries of the United States Government into the indian Country, and therefore the pay of these Militia troops have been suspended but Congress in their last Session past a law for paying the former, and if the latter is to be included, it will be proper that due notice should be given . Neither of these expeditions will be paid till the order of the Secretary of War authorizes it, because tho the law is made in favor of Major Ore's expedition, the Secretary of War must direct the funds to satisfy this demand on the Government.
You will therefore be pleased Sir to confer with him upon the payment of these Militia expeditions and let me know the result.
Knoxville I am Respectfully
