James Triplett of Naval [undecipherable] [undecipherable] from Norfolk Oct 3^d 1798] [to the Commandant of the Navy] [To the Commandant of the Navy] Norfolk Oct 3^d 1798 Sir I have wrote to William Simmons Esq^r Accountant for the War Departm- ent inclosing him a Statement of my Subsistance Acct and as he informs me he has left the business in your hands, the ballance due me on that Acct as you will see is 149 [undecipherable] fifty Dollars, my Subsistance, which acting in the Marine Service, I wish to remain for the purpos of Settling my own Acct when ever, it may be convenient for the Officers of that Ship to settle, as to Mr Garrisons letting to Stop my pay I shall not consent to it, as I have not bin accustomed to draw on the War Department I dont mean to suffer any Stoppag tho I may be debtor to many Individe- I am S^r Your Obt Servt James Triplett
