Sir, I arrived at this place on the 14^th Instant and received the muster rolls forwarded by mistake to your office agreeably to my request of the 8^th of June last. I have completed the payments of the Troops of this Garrison up to the 30^th of June last and inclose the vouchers herewith amounting to six thousand nine hundred and forty Seven Dollars and ninteen Cents — which are inclosed to Major Furman supposing he may be in Philadelphia and not having his receipt for the vouchers — If he should have embarked for this country before you receive them I will thank you to forward him an acknowledgement of your having received the vouchers to justify him in giving me a receipt for them when he arrives here — There remains yet in my hands Five hundred and Eighty Six Dollars and fifty three Cents to pay off the arrears due discharged &Reenlisted Soldiers which I believe will answer that object up to the 1^st of Jany next. I feel some anxiety respecting my accounts for Travelling expences when geting money for the Troops and Settling my Public accounts at Savannah you having expressed some doubts on that Subject in your letter of the 21^st. of June last. I have herewith forwarded an Acc^t. Similar — If they should not be allowed it will be contrary to my Interest & hold the Paymasters appointment on this extensive frontier of 300 miles and being compelled to keep two sons — I fear my cash accounts will not meet well at the ends of the year. I shall forward by the next Post an estimate for the pay of [strikethrough: the troops] up to the 31^st. December next.
