By order of the Secretary of War I send to your address the articles of Cloathing inserted in the enclosed list or Invoice to answer as patterns, for the cloathing expected to be procured through you at Boston — It is proper to mention that having no Privates Vests, Shirts, or Woolen Overalls in Store I have been obliged to select these articles from those received on former contracts for Serjeants which cost Fifty per Cent, more than the same articles furnished for Privates — but as I have selected the most Ordinary that have passed inspection no great difference will be expected — I will thank you to acknowledge the receipt of the articles and let me know when you receive them with sentiments of esteem I am Sir Jonathan Jackson Esq. your most obed^t Serv^t Samuel Hodgdon Philad^a 27.
