Sir I wrote you from Augusta on the 1^st and enclosed vouchers for the payment I had made to Wylie rose, paymaster of the militia — And M.^r Joshua nicols account for two years Salary. Colonel Fauchs arriv[strikethrough: ed here] late in the evening of the same day, to whom I have paid the amount of his accounts for supplies furnished by him to the troop under his commands. Inclosed are the vouchers, which should have been sent from Augusta, if the mail had not been closed. I have deposited with M.^r Habersham in the Custom house, the sum of Six thousand five hundred and seventy dollars, the balance remaining on hand of the money received from the Cashier of the Branch Bank in Charleston. He will keep it until I shall receive your directions in what manner it is to be appropriated. I shall also leave with [strikethrough: undecipherable] of Eight hundred and fifty dollars, which I have requested him to pay to Ensign M.^c Call on the payrolls he may send him from Fort Wilkinson for the month of July. the troops in this country will then have been paid to the commencement of the new arrangement.
