[A dm] S'burg — October [undecipherable] Your letter of the 7^th instant just received affords me the very great pleasure of knowing that you & family were at that safe [undecipherable] still in the midst of eminent danger — have received four of Pennsi Papers the last of which informs me the publication by inevitables circumstances is Discontinued. Should the Editor fall a Victim to the prevailing malady the paper will sustain a loss not to be repaired, perhaps, by a successor. I have found it necessary in order to enable me to take up several bills drawn by Cap. W^m H. Harrison on the D.M.G. and also to discharge the claims against the Quarter Master Department at this post to draw on you at ten days sight — on the 13 in favor of John Hamber for 200 Dollars — this day, in favor of Alexander M^cLoughlin for 500 dollars which be pleased to pay and charge as usual. Have this morning by express received a letter from Gen. Wilkinson at Massac dated the 10^th ult. and a communication [undecipherable] the 13^th at the Mouth of the Ohio, from which at [undecipherable] next morning he was to receive the Mississippi. The General's letter enclosed a requisition for Quarter Master and Ordnance Stores which he has directed me to have forwarded without a Moment's unnecessary delay and such of the articles as cannot be provided at this place he directs me to make the necessary [undecipherable] to you for and therefore I have to beg of you to pay immediate attention to the enclosed Indent which contains such articles of the General's requisition as are not now on hand nor can be procured at this place. I presume the Gen's letter to the [undecipherable] which goes forward by the Days post will justify his making his requisition and that no [undecipherable] will take place on our part.
