List of Names and Sums to Accompany Receipts
Document 1798Gates has complied with Simmons' request for a list of names and sums to accompany receipts for bounties. He notes that Benjamin Millken always puts a cross to his name as his own private mark.

Pvt, Cpl & Sgt. 3 Cont Army &c recd 21st Sept. 1798 Boston Sept 15th 1796 Sir I received your letters of the 29th & 31st of Augt, requesting a list of names and the sum to accompany the receipts for bounties. I have complied and sent them under blank cover on the 10th Instant, but in a little hurry of business, omitted to acknowledge the receipt of the two letters before alluded to, until now. Likewise have received your letter of the 7th Instant containing a receipt signed by Benjn Mollikin supposed to be his mark, but I find he always puts a cross to his name as a private mark. You will receive another of his Sept 8th mark is the same way – he has taken the mark from the first which I have enclosed with six others with a list I am Sir your most obt Servt.
