[Sec^y at War] Navy Department September 18^th 1798 Sir, M^r Humphreys represents to me, that two of the Cutters cannot proceed to Sea, for want of some Cutlasses, Pistols, Flints & Powder, the wanting nothing else; and that in the present calamitous situation of Philadelphia, there is no probability of getting these articles, except from the military Store.— I have the honor therefore to request that you will be pleased to send me an order on M^r Hodgdon, or M^r Harris, to furnish on the return of M^r Humphreys, any quantity of the above mentioned articles he may require to fit out the Eagle & Diligence, Two Revenue Cutters.— It is not probable M^r Humphreys will call for more of these articles than necessary and it is not possible for me to ascertain the quantity wanted.— I have the honor to be &c. &c &c.
