Sir,
The Secretary of the Treasury being desirous to draw the monies remaining in your hands for the Sale of the U.S. Lands, into the Treasury, has desired me to make an arrangement for its being paid to authorized Agents of the Q.M. Department, and inform you what Bills & to what extent you may properly receive. In compliance with his wishes thus signified I request you to pay on the drafts of Major Isaac Craig D.Q.M. General at Pittsburgh as occasions may require the whole amount of Doll 1889.72/100 that being the precise balance on hand as stated to me by the Secretary.
You will please to take triplicate receipts for all sums paid, one of which will be endorsed to the Comptroller of the Treasury, another to me, and the third to remain with you to substantiate the charges to be made on your
Account when exhibited for final adjustment. I have written to Major Craig to inform him of the arrangement made, & to direct him to suspend any drafts elsewhere until the fund remaining with you is exhausted.

Your letter of yesterday covering a check on the Bank of the U.S. for 1000 Doll came safely to hand. On the subject of the receipt I wrote you yesterday.
I shall depend on the Warrant to morrow as many of the acceptances embraced by it fall due the 14th & 15th inst.t Thompson is indeed dead. Fenno is better and will probably be raised. The general complexion much as it was, the weather however is fine, & I trust favourable. Please to inform the Secretary the 2 [undecipherable] hats shall be with him to day or tomorrow at farthest,
