With respect & esteem
I am Sir, your most obt Servant,
Dol. 11,650 James McHenry Esqr Secretary of War Samuel Hodgdon Philadelphia 10th September 1798 Sir. The proprietors of the several accounts mentioning in my former letter are pressing for the money. I have advised several of them to go to Thornton & present their Accounts, but there seems to be a reluctance to that mode of obtaining payment. Inclosed is Mr Hoffmans account for the repairs & equipping the 1th field pieces last from Springfield. Mr Annelly has an account for 40 days employ, inspecting Muskets &c in the absence of Mr Nicholson. I wish some mode of may be fallen on, as he as well as others are really distressed, they haunt me continually, and interrupt my business.
