[Copy of a letter from the Sec^y of War to Lemuel Weeks dated Sept. 5^th 1798] [Copy] War Department, Sept^r 5 1798 Sir, I have received your letter of the 25^th August ult. Capt. Amos Stoddard has written to me that the Public Building will not accommodate a company, and that it would be advantageous to purchase at Ninety Dollars, the value by appraisement enclosed, a Building erected by Aaron Chamberlain for the accommodation of his family, while he resided at the Post. You are therefore authorized to make this purchase on account of the United States. The repairs you have mentioned in your letter to me, and ordered to be made on the Fortifications, appearing necessary, you will have them completed, keeping in view a strict economy, and taking receipts for every expenditure made on their account. You will forward your receipts and Vouchers to the Accountant of the Department of War, and take his orders as to the forms and the mode of exhibiting them for Settlement.
