If any thing is to be done with the public buildings this year the season is wasting, I think the scarcity of work for tradesmen at this time would induce them not only to do the business cheap but speedily — Shingles, boards or scantling, must be spoke for some time, the demand being small they are not kept ready, as in the vicinity of large towns — You are pleased to say you will endeavour to procure money & cloathing for my sons recruits — he is now quite at a stand for want of them, altho he informs me he wrote to the Secretary two weeks ago on the subject — I would not take the liberty to repeat this matter, if I was not certain you wish by all means to forward the service & more especially as you say the [undecipherable: Secy's?] indisposition retards the business of his office — this I hope will serve as an apology for my interference in the smallest degree — with great regard I am Sir your Obed.^t Servant Wm Irvine [Col.^o Sam.^l Hodgdon]
