Savannah, 27^th August 1798. Sir It is with the great[strikethrough: est pleasure] I acknowledge the receipt of a letter from M^r Wagner of the Seventh instant accompanied with the payrolls for Fauche & Randolphs troops and the accounts of provision & forage furnished by the former. No unnecessary delay shall take place in paying the same — it will however be proper that I should have copies made of them on which I still take the paymasters receipts — On the fourth of next month I shall go to Augusta in the place where I expect to meet Colonels Pope & [undecipherable] I shall return as soon as possible. I calculate that I may be again in this place on the 10^th And I shall improve the first conveyance for Philadelphia Ensign McCall has received from me pay for all the troops in this State to the thirtieth of June inclusively — the detachments at Forts S^t Tammany, Pickering & Jameshave been paid to the thirty first of July; and it is my wish that all should be paid to the same period, in order that the payments may be completed at the old rate of pay.
