Many rec^d 29^th Ans the Same Day] [address leaf:] W^m Simmons Esq^r favr Accountant of the War Department --- Sir, Dover Aug^t 25^th 1798 Enclosed are Duplicate Receipts for the Money advanced Recruits on acc^t of their Bounty, since my last Return of the 18^th Inst— In consequence of my want of information with respect to your name and address, I enclosed my first Receipts in my Letter to the Secretary, supposing that if I was wrong the Secretary would have set me right; however I never rec^d any information from him on the Subject until this Week, therefore I hope you will excuse my forwarding the Receipts — though that channel and if the Receipts thus transmitted have not come to hand you will be so obliging as to procure them from that Department.
