Samuel Hodgdon Esq. / Purveyor [undecipherable]] Mississippi Territory — August 20^th 1798 — Accept my good Friend from this Extream of your Government [strikethrough: undecipherable] my most ardent wishes for the health and happiness of yourself and your worthy wife — I pray God you may know not disease — I trust my long Letter relative to our honest Governor [strikethrough: undecipherable] may have come to your hands — buy for me Eleven soldiers military Warrants equal to 1100 acres that in all or any event I may meet his nefarious Demands upon me — I wrote you for two Quarter Casks of good Wine I hope you have sent them — if not I Think it would be advisable to ship them by Orleans and add two more Quarter Casks of common red or white I dont care which — a [undecipherable: Band] of Loaf Sugar and Coffee together, some Olives also with a Little excellent Brandy and any other good things you please to be insured and sent to this [undecipherable: House of Key & Cockran] also a [undecipherable: Gross] of [undecipherable] Porter — the whole to be insured — I think you had best consult [undecipherable] about the Porter — these things are material to me before Winter for without them I must absolutely suffer — Pray dont omit therefore to afford them immediate attention — for the enclosed letter to my Sister I request your Attention and that it may go on as soon as possible by a private hand if no [undecipherable: Vessel] should be coming round from Philadelphia you will certainly find one at New York — Write me my friend & beseech you — I require by this conveyance [undecipherable] friend the Secretary to send me some Papers — if he has not yet sent — I have asked also permission to visit early next Summer the Atlantic States if this Country should be in Peace and I should have organized perfectly the Government — Send my regards on [undecipherable] your usual friendly Zeal and I am sure I shall [undecipherable] — My health requires it for indeed I have been and am still sick, and I have also as you know private concerns to call me amongst you — I shall not however follow [undecipherable] example to quit the Country without leave — adieu and believe me always your friend Winthrop Sargent
