Colors for General Washington, Etc.
Document 1798Mr. Rutter has supplied one of the colors for General Washington but the other is known by Mr. Bleakley who is out of town. Reports indicate that six have been admitted to the hospital and six are dead.
Philadelphia 18th August 1798 Sir. I have made enquiry relative to the colours for General Washington. Mr. Rutter has finished one of them under the direction of Mr. Bleakley, but the other he has no device for, & Mr. Bleakley is out of town. Until I am informed on this subject nothing further can be done. Who is to pay Mr. Rutter for the Painting, he already calls for money in advance. Report of the Committee for the last 24 hours, stands, Six received into the Hospital & Six dead. I hear of no new case in the City. Respectfully yours Samuel Hodgdon James McHenry Esqr.
