Sir To day I received your favour of the 7^th instant covering your Return of the Stores under your care — I am glad to find the Musket Cases are nearly completed — when the Arms are put into them you will particularly note and mark on them the kinds — say Charleville, or such as they may be — The Carriages must be over hauled and completely fitted for the pieces to be ready for removal at a moments warning — I have been obliged to make like repairs to the Pieces received from you on account of the shrinking of the Hubs. — Ladles Sponges and Worms should be prepared for the Pieces, if not already to them, for we now mean to be ready for action — Parade is out of the question I am Sir Your m^o ob^t Servant Cap^t Briant, Samuel Hodgdon Philadelphia 11^th August 1798 Sir By order of the Secretary of War I send to your address the articles inserted in the enclosed invoice.
