I therefore request, to be informed the time & place (should it be been determined) that this Office is to be removed to, in order that those Clerks who have familys may have an opportunity of making the necessary provision — [undecipherable] P. The Secretary of War Accountants Office Sir August 11. 1799 On reference to the contingent accounts of those Paymasters who have settled at this Office I dont find that they have been allowed any expences coming from the army for that purpose — I therefore see no cause why Cap^t. McClary's should have any allowance on that head — The principle which has obtained in all other settlements was to allow their extra expences from the time they arrived in the City until the settlement was completed — Mr. McClary having been a considerable time in the City before he rendered his accounts, say from June to 12 July that principle cannot govern as the other paymasters re[nder] their accounts a few days after their arrival — I would therefore suggest the propriety of allowing him his extra Expences for a reasonable time, say from the 1 July to the present at 10 Dollars per week (the sum per week allowed to Cap^t.
