Pittsburg August 10^th 1798 [p52] Your letter of the 3^d instant accompanied by 5 of Fenno's Papers &ca is received enclosing a receipt of Derry Ryazen for the mare rode by Henley the Express whom I charged to be careful of that valuable Mare which was in excellent condition when delivered to him. On the 4^th instant two of James Hamilton's waggons, in charge of Hugh Spear, arrived with Cloathing for the 1^st Regiment, and Spear being as usual unable to return without assistance I advanced him twenty Dollars for which you will find his receipt enclosed. That sum you will please to place to my credit. In order to supply Captain Turner with Cloathing for his Recruits I have been under a necessity of opening a Package addressed to Col° Hamtramck and Box N° 12 being its seal shattered I concluded it most proper to take the supply wanted from its contents or perhaps, to appropriate the whole to fit to the upper post — It is therefore necessary that you prepare to [undecipherable] the 1^st Regiment the contents of that package [undecipherable] of Captain William A. Burrison [undecipherable: probable reading A.D.Q.M.] Fort Washington for 350 dollars on the Quarter Master General being presented to me I have accepted it & drawn on you in discharge thereof, this day, in favor of W^m Laville at ten days sight and I have also this day drawn on you in favor of John Wrenthale for 300 Dollars at ten days sight in consequence of a like sum now delivered me — You will please to pay these drafts when due & charge as usual.
