The account of stoppages made from the Ship Carpenters is right, it agrees with your debit in my Books on that Account. I shall continue my advances for the men engaged to go to Detroit and charge them to Cap^t Ernest agreeably to advice. Your Draft for two thousand dollars has been presented and honoured. The Secretary of War has been sick for several days, which has brought the duty hard on me, he is still confined, and now all is confusion again removing from the fever which prevails in a small degree, but which as usual is exceedingly exaggerated. The Public Offices will all be provided for at Trenton. I shall not budge. [P.S. I wish you as soon as the Powder is formally received of Delafield to make out a receipt embracing the whole quantity purchased say 600 Boxes with the precise weight of the Powder paid for. Until this is obtained I cannot make an entry, nor can the Secretary make final settlement of the Cash Accounts presented. The receipt should mention the kinds, as well as the quantity of Powder you can permit yourself to stand charged, in the first instance and you will be credited for the Powder sent here, and what may be deposited with you, for both you will obtain receipts. John Sharris Storekeeper here will receipt for what comes here and the Keeper of the Magazine will receipt to you for what is committed to his care. I note your observations relative to Captain Frys command, and think them judicious, a short order may be expected to set all right there. I have been thinking that your own receipt for the quantity of Powder received of Delafield will answer the Secretary of the Treasury's purpose as you inform me you forwarded Capt Frys receipt, for what you purchased, and I believe no other purchase was made on account of Government.
