Pres[ton's] account as it stands on the Books of this office. There is an unsettled account on file here, but from the want of Sufficient vouchers cannot be finally acted on. Capt. Preston was furnished with a statement & a list of the objectionable vouchers, he promised to have them completed Speedily but has never yet done it. I presume if he [undecipherable] resigned he should be obliged to Settle his publick accounts before he is permitted finally to leave the Service. The Abstracts of Services in the Indian Department will be taken up in course & you will be furnished with the necessary information of the result.
