[3^o] The following is an Instruction which M^r Peter Schuyler gave to M^r Campbell Secretary to the Commissioners of the United States Appointed to Negotiate with the Indians, upon M^r Campbell, having delivered to M^r Schuyler a Letter from the Commissioners in which they Offered to M^r Schuyler the Impropriety and Offensive Nature of his Conduct in Appearing at the Treaty at Fort Stanwix with an Interpreter and giving Liquors to the Indians as if he was a Commissioner and by Various direct and indirect means counteracting the Negotiation which they were holding with the Indians — which Instruction had neither Seal nor Signature to it and was taken from a Paper containing Other Directions to M^r Schuyler, and which Instruction M^r Schuyler declared that he received from the Governor [undecipherable] of New york: — [undecipherable] copy of [undecipherable] Instruction which M^r Schuyler delivered to M^r Campbell — to wit — The said Peter Schuyler together with Peter [undecipherable: Thighatmen?] as an Interpreter is directed to Attend at [undecipherable] [undecipherable] at the Time that the Commissioners of the [undecipherable] Shall hold their Treaty with the Indians, to Observe [strikethrough: the] conduct of the Commissioners of the United States and to Oppose and frustrate any of their Proceedings, which might eventually [underline: Effect] the Interest of the State of New york, — The foregoing Instruction being delivered to the Commissioners by M^r Campbell, without any written Attestation of it by M^r Schuyler, M^r Campbell was directed [undecipherable] [undecipherable] being delivered to go to M^r Schuyler and desire him to Attest the copy as an Instruction which he had received from the Governor of the State of New york, M^r Campbell in Obedience to this Order went to M^r Schuyler and upon his return to the Commissioners reported to them, that he had delivered the copy to [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] M^r Schuyler and informed him that it was the wish of the Commissioners that he would Authenticate the copy as an Instruction which he had received from the Governor of the State of New york, and that he put the copy into M^r Schuyler's Hands for the Purpose as [undecipherable] mentioned — And that M^r Schuyler [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] got the copy into his Hands tore it into Pieces — Nov. 23^d 1794 certified by [undecipherable]
