Fort McHenry August 6^th 98 Sir I have recieved your letter of the 28^th Ulto, since which Indisposition has prevented a reply until now. The case alluded to in the pay roll, was the first on it, being for three months & twenty days, I mentioned the latter in my letter of the 24^th of July because 3 months must be twelve dollars [+to my Government] and agreeable to the mode you have laid down, twenty days will amount to two dollars, & sixty six cents making in all fourteen dollars & sixty six Cents, as stated by me in the pay roll, from which you deduct [undecipherable]. The deductions seems to have been made upon the same principles on all the other cases.
