[Duplicate.] Savannah 31^st July 1798 Sir Inclosed is a duplicate of my letter to you of the 26^th instant and a list of the troupes which I transmitted to you by M^r Whitney, who sailed from this post for Philadelphia on the twenty fifth. I have been most anxiously expecting letters from you in answer to mine of the 9^th 22^d & 26^th of last month — a duplicate of the first I sent by the Sloop John. Capt. Munger, agreeably to your desire in your letter of the May in order that you might know I heard with all the notes mentioned in the estimate for militia Service — my two last letters were put by the Schooner [undecipherable] via Newporte — Sir a similar from I have not received respecting of Tonate & Chandler's payments which Colonel Hyre was here, it would have saved me the trouble of a journey to Augusta — besides a line from you would have relieved my mind from the greatest anxiety. Ensign M^c Call and myself have examined the minutes & reporte to the 30^th inclusive — have sent to the different posts an order to one 30^th June. I shall be able with the money M^r Patterson has received and the balance I lost on hand when I first arrived to discharge the notes to that period. I am now on pages engaged in making an examination of all M^r Tame's account and troubles will be in some matters as soon as completed. I observe in your letter to M^r M^c Call of the 12^th instant, mention is made of the compensation solicited by M^r Whitney for his Services for mustering the militia, and for doing the duty of paymaster to the regular troops — I have given M^r Whitney a certificate relative to the first and have referred therein to the letter of the Secretary of War to me of the 6^th of August 1795 — He did the duty of paymaster between the removal of Lieut. Dalca's resignation and Ensign M^c Call entering into the duties of that office — He made a payment to the troops — I wrote to M^r Howell upon that subject on the 3^d January 1798 — I have not any recollection of his answer — I cannot now refer to his letters as my papers are not here.
