[Letter from the Secretary of the Navy to purchase the Prize Schooner Croixable
July 28. 1798

Navy Departmt 30 July 798
[Elev

The Prize Schooner, La Croyable, will be sold this Day at 12 oClock, at the Merchts Coffee House — with her Apparel & Guns. — I request the favor of you to attend the Sale, & bid for her, the first bid, what you Judge to be a fair price, taking into consideration, the value of the kind of Guns she has — her present condition & what it will take to fit her completely for a Cruizer. — The money arising from the Sale, will be divided between the Public — & the Crew of Capt Decatur — My wish is, that the Crew should get the value of their half the prize — but not more than the other.
