Sir
By order of the Secretary of War I have this day shipped to your address, via New York, 26 Suits of Clothing with a proportionable number of Arms & Accoutrements to enable you to commence your Recruiting. I have desired Alexander Smith the Merchant to whom they are addressed in York to use his best endeavours to get them on to you immediately. I hope he will succeed and that you will shortly receive them. The Vessel sails for York this evening.
I conclude Mr Smith will send the supplies to Hartford with orders to send them up the River with all convenient dispatch. It will be well for you to interest some friend in Hartford to advise you of their arrival, and assist in getting them on as you may direct.
Dame Sir,
Your most obt Servant,
Samuel Hodgdon
Lieut Nathan Leonard.
