R.P.O. 401310.] Pittsburg 28^th July 1798 Shortly after the departure of those [undecipherable] Master General several bills drawn on him by Captain William [H.] Ha[rrison] A. Q. M. at Fort Washington were presented to me for acce[ptance] and which to prevent Embarasments to the Drawer [or] Reflections [on] the Quarter Master Department have taken up, and of whi[ch] [undecipherable] the Quarter Master General and have dra[wn on] you for their Amount, Viz. Yesterday in favor of Oliver [undecipherable] four Bills — A. B. C. D.— of [5]00. dollars each [and one of] 300. dollars, total two thousand three hundred dollars [at ten] days sight. And this day in Favor of Samuel Meeker [for] Six hundred dollars in two bills, Viz. one of 500. and one of 100. dollars both payable at ten days after sight — These bills please to pay when due and charge to the Quarter Master General. You will no doubt think it extraordinary, to see five drafts [of] same date [and] sight in favor of same persons, but that is [explained by] informing you that the Inspector of the Revenue, Gen. John Neville, has not yet been furnished with stamped paper for bills of larger sums than five hundred dollars. Mrs. Neville and Mrs. Craig have made out a Catalogue of Books which they wish to add to their collection and which they have desired me to beg of you or Mr Harris to procu[re] for them. I do not presume to ask you to take the trouble of searching the several Book Stores, but expect that Mr. Harris or some one of your Young Men will be so obliging at Your Request. Your Obed. Servant.
