Lieu^t Samuel O'Dyson Fort Whitestone Point Sir I received your letter of the 24 Inst.^o enclosing Receipt rolls of the Recruits enlisted by you up to 30 June last inclusive amounting to two hundreds & twenty one Dollars &³²/₁₀₀ which sum will be passed to your credit on the Books of this Office — I know not whose pay you allude to when you ask on what principle 20 days pay is calculated two Dollars &³²/₁₀₀ per on referring to the Receipt rolls I find no such case exist; It may not be improper however to inform you that the mode invariably observed in calculating pay in this Office when the service is not performed for a whole Calender month, is to multiply the number of Days pay due by the amount of the pay p^r month and to divide by the number of Days in the month — Sam^t &c W.
