Lieut^t Samuel D Dyson Fort Whitestone Point Accountants Office July 28^th 1798 Sir I received your letter of the 24 Inst. enclosing Recept. rolls of the Recruits enlisted by you up to 30 June last inclusive amounting to two hundreds & twenty one Dollars & [undecipherable] which sum will be passed to your credit on the Books of this Office — I know not whose pay you allude to when you ask on what principle 20 days pay is calculated, two Dollars & [undecipherable] per on referring to the Recept. rolls I find no such case exists — It may not be improper however to inform you that the mode invariably observed in calculating pay in this Office when the service is not performed for a whole Calander months, is, to multiply the number of Days pay due by the amount of the pay p^r month and to divide by the number of Days in the month — I am &c W.
