The pay of Thomas Scott is made up to the 29 June at which time he appears by the Muster Roll to have been discharged tho' his time of service would not expire till the 29 June 1800. it is therefore necessary that you inform me, by what authority [strikethrough: by what authority] he has been discharged, no account thereof being in this Office. There will be no allowance made to Lieut.^t Claiborne as Adjutant & Quarter master as there is no law authorizing the pay- -ment of any except to those of Regiments & Battallons— For the time that the matron is already made up on your Pay role as well as for any future service it is necessary that you forward to this Office a certificate from the surgeons mate stating the necessity of the service— I am &c W.
