Inst.t enclosing Pay & muster Rolls of the Detachment under your
command up to 30 June 1798, which having been examined the foll-
-ing is the result—

Date of his acceptance of the appointment, to the 30 June 1798

making in the whole Fourteen hundred sixty two Dollars & 69/100 which
sum you will receive from Edward Carrington Esq.r supervisor Richmond
on giving him the necessary receipts holding yourself accountable
for the due application thereof—.
The pay of Thomas Scott is made up to the 29 June at
which time he appears by the Muster Roll to have been discharged
tho' his time of service would not expire till the 29 June 1800. it is
therefore necessary that you inform me, by what authority [strikethrough: by what authority] he has been discharged, no account thereof being in this Office.
There will be no allowance made to Lieut.t Claiborne
as Adjutant & Quarter master as there is no law authorizing the pay-
-ment of any except to those of Regiments & Battallons—
For the time that the matron is already made up on
your Pay role as well as for any future service it is necessary that
you forward to this Office a certificate from the surgeons mate
stating the necessity of the service—
