A Statement of the whiskey shipped for Fort Washington previous to 1^st June 1796 shall be made and transmitted by next post. The Quarter Master General embarks this day for Head Quarters. — By last post I received the Secretary of War's orders to dismiss the Ship Carpenters as soon as the Gally now on the Stocks shall be completed which I expect will be before the end of this Month, and therefore I have to request you to transmit as early as possible your accounts of advances to their families to enable me to make a final settlement with them at the time of their dismission, But as six of the Carpenters — William Cook, William Bradshaw, [undecipherable: probable reading John Watson,] James Tuttle, Abraham Albertson & Charles Woolfall — have [undecipherable: probable reading engaged] to proceed to Detroit and continue at that post [undecipherable: probable reading until the 1^st] of May 1799 employed at building a brigantine &ca therefore have requested that their families be supplied as usual by you: But you will please to take Notice that all advances made on their account subsequent to the last of this Month you are to charge to Matthew Ernest A.D.M.G. at Detroit or to the Quarter Master General. I have this day found it necessary to draw on you in favor of General John Neville for two thousand dollars in four drafts of 500 Dollars each on Stamped paper payable at ten days sight.
