Sir The Men whose names are inserted in the enclosed letter leave this City via Amboy for New York at one O'Clock this day — They have agreed to have their passage money deducted from their Bounty you will please to conduct in the adjustment of this business accordingly, to prevent cavil I have at all events agreed to be accountable. John Henry New York] Philadelphia 18^th July 1798 — Sir — Today I received your letter of the 11^th instant, and am well pleased with your arrangements and dispatch, in getting forward the Ordnance and Stores ordered from your Post — I have spoken to the accountant on the business you mention and trust you will hear of no more difficulties in passing your accounts — proceed in the way you have adopted and I will be accountable for the adjustment of any Debts you may incur — You had better keep One thousand Muskets in Boxes, or Boxes ready to receive them at a moments notice — for this purpose you will please to procure low priced but well seasoned Boards and have fifty Chests made of proper dimensions to contain twenty five Muskets & bayonets each when made and filled, let them be well [underline: hooped] round at each end, they will come much cheaper done in this way, and they are much stronger and better than the Iron Clamps. — I am Sir Your most Obedient Serv^t Samuel Hodgdon Captain John Briant
