Samuel Hodgdon Philadelphia Sir Shepherds Town July 17^th 1798 Captain James Glenn's Team has Just Returned from Alexandria, to which place I sent the Tents & poles, (agreeable to your directions of 9^th Ult:) and placed them in possession of M^r [undecipherable] Riddle Merchant, a Gentleman on whom I can rely, he promised to forward them immediately, by a Sloop, hourly expected there, or if the Sloop did not arrive soon, to find them by one of the Packets, for Norfolk — I was not able to engage a team to proceed the whole distance, by land at this busy Season — and have by this route saved a great expence in the transportation. It would have taken the time of a team at least Twenty five days to proceed to Norfolk & Return; the expence of freight from Alexandria thence will be a Mere trifle; have written to Captain Blackburn informing the rout by which he will obtain them [strikethrough: Stores] — have enclosed your Captain Glenns Account and Receipt of Thirty Two Dollars for light dray hire of his Team transporting from Martinsburg to Alexandria. — you will please Credit me with this amount, subject to my draft — or, as may suit for re-payment — I have this day drawn on you, a bill at five days Sight, in favor of M^r William Taylor, Merchant of Baltimore, for One Hundred and Twenty Six Dollars, which you will please pay to him (order), agreeable to its Tenor.
