Ensign Hugh McCall Accountants Office Savannah Georgia July 12^th 1798 Sir The enclosed is Triplicate of my letter of the 21 June, and duplicate of that dated 10 Inst, & your account of expences as well as that of Mr. Whitney for pay as muster master will be submitted to the Sec^y of War, they being of a Contingent nature & he has the direction of that fund — You will when a decision takes place be informed thereof, I do not find on reference to Mr. Howells correspondence with Mr. Freeman any expression that promises the payment of M^r Whitneys account as mentioned by you, Indeed he must have referred it to the Secretary of War first & this seems to have been his intention by a letter from him to Mr. Freeman on the subject — The money to pay the discharged Soldiers will go by this post, to M^r Habersham — A gross sum of four thousand five hundred dollars has been forwarded so as to cover any addition demand on that head, you will be particularly correct in all your calculations, as in this case there will be no hopes of recovering any over payment — I do not mention this from having discovered any errors in your previous transactions, but merely as a caution to prevent loss on your part — I am of opinion that some notice will be taken of your representation respecting Price, I have furnished an extract of your letter as far as respects that subject to the proper Department — Notice no doubt should be taken where such abuses exist — The letter you enclosed for Doct^r Gillaspy will be retained here, untill an opportunity shall offer to forward it — The Frigate it is expected is at Sea — I am Y^r W.
