Carter of the State aforesaid are held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the sum of eight hundred Dollars — to which payment well and truly to be made We bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, Sealed with [undecipherable] dated the ninth day of July, One thousand seven hundred and ninety eight — Whereas the above mentioned Buckner Harris on behalf of Buckner Harris and Company, hath entered into a Contract bearing date the sixth day of July one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight, for supplying the United States with Cannon Ball — And Whereas the United States have this day advanced to the said Buckner Harris on behalf of said Buckner Harris & Company, [the] Four hundred Dollars for the purpose of enabling them to carry the said Contract into effect. Now the Condition of this obligation is such, that if the said Buckner Harris & Company shall well and truly perform and execute all and singular the Covenants and agreements contained in the said Contract — then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
